Abstract

Dynamics in leadership and employee competence that affect overall employee performance. This study aims to analyze the role of work motivation in mediating the relationship between transformational leadership and employee competence on employee performance at Bappedalitbang Tegal Regency. The method used in this study is Partial Least Square (PLS) with the help of SmartPLS version 3 software, which allows data analysis that does not have to be multivariate normal distribution and does not require large samples. The results of the study indicate that there is a positive influence of employee competence on employee performance, as well as the influence of work motivation on employee performance. In addition, work motivation has been shown to function as a mediating variable that improves employee performance. Transformational leadership also affects work motivation, although its direct effect on employee performance is not significant. This study provides important insights for organizations regarding effective leadership strategies, where leaders need to create an environment that supports work motivation to improve overall employee performance. Thus, this study emphasizes the importance of work motivation as a key factor in improving employee performance in government agencies, in line with Government Regulation Number 30 of 2019 which emphasizes the importance of civil servant performance in achieving organizational goals.
