Abstract

This study aims to assess the efficiency of Islamic Banks (BUS) and Conventional Bank (BUK) during period 2006 up to 2010. This study also aimed to assess differences in the efficiency of Islamic Bank and Conventional Bank before and after the crisis of 2008. The research data was obtained from the income statement on Banking Directory of Indonesia from 2006 until 2009, while data obtained the 2010 from income statement posted on www.bi.go.id. Intermediation approach used in this study, so the input variables for slamic Bank is the results to investors and the investment fundshare not related to other operating expenses, while Conventional Bank is the interest expenses and the operating expenses other than interest. The Islamic Bank output is the distribution of funds and the revenue from other operating income, while Conventional Bank is the interest income and the operating income other than interest. This study uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach as a tool to measure the level of efficiency and using Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to measure the difference in efficiency before and after the crisis. These results indicate that the level of efficiency Islamic Bank and Conventional Bank have varies. Islamic Bank have higher efficiency levels and efficiency levels of Conventional Bank is increasing from year to year. The results of hypothesis testing indicate that Islamic Bank is haven’t differences in levels of efficiency before and after the crisis, while Conventional Bank is have difference.
