Abstract
This study examines the factors that influence banks' ability to generate profits. In addition, researchers are also interested in analyzing the presence of intervening variables. This study is done because there are still gaps in the results of previous studies that still need to be consistent in the conclusions of the findings. The sample chosen is the banking industry during the period 2016 – 2020. The analysis technique chosen is multiple regression analysis and the Sobel Test to test the mediating effect of the CAR variable. The test results conclude that NPL and CAR significantly negatively affect ROA. While LDR does not affect ROA. In the mediation test, it was found that CAR was proven to be able to mediate the effect of NPL and LDR on ROA

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji faktor-faktor yang di duga berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan perbankan menghasilkan keuntungan. Selain itu, peneliti juga tertarik untuk menganalisis adanya variabel intervening. Hal ini dilakukan karena masih terdapat kesenjangan pada hasil penelitian terdahulu yang belum konsisten pada kesimpulan temuannya. Sampel yang dipilih adalah industri perbankan selama periode 2016 – 2020. Teknik analisis yang dipilih merupakan analisis regresi berganda dan Sobel Test untuk menguji pengaruh mediasi variabel CAR. Hasil pengujian menyimpulkan bahwa NPL dan CAR berpengaruh negatif signifikan terhadap ROA. Sedangkan LDR tidak berpengaruh terhadap ROA. Pada uji mediasi ditemukan bahwa CAR terbukti dapat menjadi mediasi pada pengaruh NPL maupun LDR terhadap ROA |
